I’ve been keenly interested in space since watching the Apollo missions unfold in the 60’s and early 70’s – indeed I first went to university to study astrophysics. NASA Hasselblad Electric Camera (HEDC) also called lunar Hasselblad, 1969. This is the camera used to take photographs of the surface of the Moon. These photos can be easily recognized thanks to the little crosses coming from the reseau plate at the back of the HEDC. All these Hasselblad cameras are part of my collection. It is not an exaggeration to say that Hasselblad is a camera legend. The brand reached an iconic statusafter the camera was used to take the first photos of man on the moon.

Fifty years later, on 20 July 2019, Hasselblad proudly celebrates its role in being the cameras that were chosen by NASA for space photography, and even more so, the cameras that documented the historical moment of the first men on the Moon. The HDC included a Réseau plate, which imprinted the fixed cross-marks on the negatives and allowed for photogrammetric measurements to be made from the images.
